In light of the recent news regarding the European beef supply chain, Compass Group (Australia) and its subsidiary companies would like to take this opportunity to reassure our clients of the integrity of our supply chain.
Compass Group (Australia) has sought and received written confirmation from engaged suppliers of prepared meat products and fresh meat products that all beef products contain 100 per cent bovine meat. Where beef is sourced from a secondary certified supplier, supporting documentation has also been provided to this effect.
For your wider information, Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) is the bi-national Government agency whose responsibility it is to administer the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code. FSANZ has released a statement detailing it is ‘unlikely meat substitution’ is occurring in Australia and that ‘to date, there is no indication affected products in Europe have been exported to Australia or that horse meat has been sold as beef in Australia’. FSANZ has also advised beef and beef products can only be imported into Australia from a small number of countries and require strict government certification and endorsement, including details of the country of origin of the beef.
FSANZ and the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry are continuing to monitor the situation to determine whether further action is warranted. More information can be found here: http://www.foodstandards.gov.au/
Clients of Compass Group (Australia) and its subsidiary companies can be assured that the integrity of our supply chain is of the upmost importance to us and will continue to be so.
