We are focused on developing great leaders in our business, to use succession planning and talent management tools to recognise and harness our internal talent and to recruit senior roles from within our own ranks. This focus has historically resulted in a proportion of our senior managers, who commenced as site based employees being supported and mentored to their current roles.

This support and mentoring is formalised via Compass Group’s Emerging Leaders Program (Certificate IV in Business), which is used to fast track the progress of upcoming leaders in our business. The program designed for Area Managers and senior Site Managers looks at business outcomes. Assessment is based on a series of ‘action learning’ projects demonstrating what participants have learned and achieved, supported by results.

The skills, experience, attitude and ability of our senior managers in shaping the direction of the company, motivating and inspiring their teams and driving the performance of the business are key components to our success. We strive to ensure that we have the best leadership talent to maintain and grow our market leading position.

Traineeships and apprenticeships

As well as providing mentoring and talent management to employees, Compass is also committed to providing formal training opportunities via traineeship and apprenticeship programs. Both programs combine structured paid TAFE training with on the job training and coaching by an experienced workplace supervisor so that employees can earn while they learn.

We also have a number of programs that offer apprenticeships to both current employees and new entrants into the industry; apprenticeships in Commercial Cookery (Certificate III) and Hospitality – Kitchen Operations (Certificate II) are offered. The emphasis on the training provided is heavily weighted towards on the job training and requires mentoring support from head chefs and site managers. We also offer traineeships in Hospitality: a Certificate III in Hospitality (Catering Operations) for our cook and senior kitchen staff and a Certificate IV in Hospitality (Supervision) for our new managers, supervisors and leaders.

Above Unit employees are also provided access to training and career progression opportunities via internal and external programs.
