At Compass Group Australia (CGA), the safety and well-being of our people are at the heart of everything we do. Fuelled by our ambition to revolutionise food safety and quality across our sites, CGA is collaborating with Constellation Technologies, an Australian leader in Internet of Things (IoT) and digital transformation, to co-develop a digital and automated HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points) Food Safety Management system.
Originally developed by NASA and The Pillsbury Company in the 1960s to keep astronauts safe, HACCP is a preventative approach to food safety that is now used worldwide to identify and control risks before they happen. “Embracing technology is an efficient and robust way to improve food safety and keep people safe,” shares Adrian Reichhart, National Manager – Food Safety & Innovation. “The system uses AI to support teams to predict potential breaches of critical controls in real time, allowing us to resolve issues before they happen. All food safety information is captured by the system, making it easy to satisfy all internal and external audits, proving that food safety isn’t just a box we tick, but something we live every day.”
This system marks a major step forward for CGA. Developed with input from our Chefs, Catering teams, and Safety experts, our Digital HACCP system uses smart sensors to track data relating to critical control points, such as temperature checks and hygiene activities, helping us act quickly if an issue arises. Already live across our Senior Living, Hospitals and Living & Working Services sectors, we’re leading the charge in transforming how food safety is delivered, embracing smarter, more reliable ways of working.
One of the first sites to benefit from the rollout is Holy Family Services (HFS), a 146-bed aged care home in Sydney, supported by Morrison Living. The introduction of the Digital HACCP system at HFS highlights how innovation can drive practical, everyday improvements in food safety, while also supporting our broader goals around social impact, health and sustainability.
The HFS team has welcomed the system with open arms. “It’s quick, easy and paper-free,” says Client Services Manager Allan Rees. “The Digital HACCP system gives us extra confidence that we’re keeping our residents safe. It helps us stay on top of food safety in a simple, modern way, and that means we can focus more on delivering good food and care every day. The team loves the modern tech, the hassle-free cooling process and being able to check food safety compliance anywhere, anytime.”
