Purpose Driven Procurement

We believe in the power of food to enrich lives and support the health, wellbeing, and sustainable prosperity of our communities. As a leading global food organisation, we embrace our responsibility to drive positive change and help clients deliver a shared vision for a better future through food. Our ethical standards reflect our commitment to human rights, equality, and eradicating modern slavery, as well as advancing animal welfare, achieving Net Zero Carbon, and eliminating food waste.

Grown here not flown here

We are passionate about supporting Australian suppliers at every level; national, state, regional, and local.

This not only strengthens our communities, it also reduces unnecessary food miles from our supply chain resulting in a more sustainable procurement process. We collaborate closely with suppliers and distributors to deliver solutions that serve both our clients and local communities. Through our ‘Grown Here Not Flown Here’ program, we prioritise locally grown fresh produce and freshly prepared products wherever possible. We track and monitor over $81 million annually in fruits and vegetables sourced across Australia.

This initiative showcases exceptional talent throughout our supply chain, from growers and producers to markets, suppliers, distributors, and logistics partners, creating multiple opportunities and options across every state and nationally.

Animal Welfare

We are committed to animal welfare across our global supply chain, supporting sustainable agriculture, ethical treatment of animals, and investment in alternative proteins and plant-forward products.

Aligned with Compass Group PLC standards, we ensure all animal-derived products meet local animal welfare legislation. We adopt the Farm Animal Welfare Council’s Five Freedoms and have been annually assessed by the Business Benchmark on Farm Animal Welfare (BBFAW) since 2012.

FIRST NATIONS PROCUREMENT

We are committed to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led businesses through meaningful engagement, investment, and long-term partnerships.

This includes working with a growing number of certified Indigenous suppliers across food, beverage, equipment, and services, with over $24 million spent in 2025 alone. These efforts are guided by our Reconciliation Action Plan, Indigenous Procurement Policy, and Indigenous Participation Policy, all designed to promote economic development and workforce participation in First Nations communities. As a founding member of Supply Nation since 2009, we continue to grow our network of Indigenous suppliers by around 10% annually. We remain dedicated to learning from and supporting First Nations entrepreneurs and family businesses across Australia.

Eradicating Modern Slavery

As a global leader in food and support services, Compass Group Australia remains committed to doing what is right for the communities we serve.

Since publishing our policy, Eradicating Modern Slavery in our Supply Chains in March 2019, we have continued to invest in the capability, processes and partnerships required to implement best practices in the detection, investigation and mitigation of risks in our operations and supply chain. To apply systematic, risk-based scrutiny to our supply chains, we have partnered with Sedex, the world-leading ethical trade membership organisation, and launched our Third-Party Integrity Due Diligence policy.
