Winning Through Teamwork with Foodbank Australia
Some of the most impactful moments happen when we step out of our everyday roles and come together for something bigger. Towards the end of 2025, 35 senior leaders from across Compass Group Australia (CGA) joined forces for a national volunteering effort with our Purpose Partner, Foodbank Australia. Across four states, our team contributed 184 hours of hands-on support, making a real and immediate difference for thousands of families doing it tough.
Foodbank, Australia’s largest food relief organisation, plays a vital role in the fight against hunger. They not only provide essential food relief but also work to address the root causes of food insecurity through partnerships and advocacy. By joining forces, CGA can leverage our national scale and extensive procurement, distribution, and logistics network to create real impact — reducing food waste, feeding those in need, and building stronger, more connected communities.

Nationwide Effort in Action
In Melbourne, our leaders showed what it means to win through teamwork, packing 563 hampers for 17 charity partners. Over in Sydney, the team helped move more than 9,500kg of food, the equivalent of 13,667 meals for people needing support over the festive season. One of our volunteers, George Michaelides, General Manager – Growth & Partnerships, reflected on the experience. “By pitching in and getting my hands dirty, I really developed a new appreciation of the great work Foodbank do every day.”
In Brisbane, leaders powered through 360 ‘Food for Kids’ hampers in under two hours, helping close the meal gap for children during school holidays. The team at Foodbank even commented that they’d never seen a faster team! “It was so rewarding,” shared volunteer Luke Butler, Senior Advisor – DE&I. “People left talking about how they can get their team involved to do it again!”

Finally in Perth, the team sorted 2,000kg of soap and fresh fruit, supporting Mission Australia’s Christmas in the Park and regional food distribution. Across three sessions in 2025, their collective contribution has delivered 90 volunteer hours, saved 200kg of food from going to waste, created 1,800 meals, and packed over 200 hampers.
“Volunteering with Foodbank was an incredibly rewarding experience,” says Andrew Chamberlain, National Manager – Workplace Relations.
“Hearing firsthand how much this support eases the pressure of rising living costs really drove home the impact that I could have from the simple act of volunteering.”

Beyond the Hours
Alongside their efforts, our teams also contributed $1,820 to support Foodbank’s operational costs, helping ensure this essential organisation can continue its vital work.
And this is just the beginning. After the success of this national effort, we’re excited to keep growing our partnership with Foodbank and continue making a real difference throughout 2026.
