Food boxes supplied to Sydney’s vulnerable as Compass Group Australia partners with community organisations

From this week, Compass Group Australia will work with 4 organisations to donate Essentials Boxes to impacted families in Sydney’s west and south west.

30 August 2021: Compass Group Australia, a leader in food and support services, is partnering with charities and support organisations to provide boxes of fresh fruits and vegetables, as support organisations like Addison Road see demand increase 20% per week, as the NSW lockdown continues.

Working with community groups Addison Road, Lighthouse Community Support, House of Welcome and Turbans for Australia, the Essential Boxes will provide food assistance to struggling families, refugees and asylum seekers not eligible for government benefits or with income dramatically decreased due to restrictions.

Compass Group is engaging team members who otherwise would be stood down or on reduced working hours to assist with preparing the boxes.

Shelley Roberts, Managing Director of Compass Group Australia said, “As a leader in food service, we have a clear role to play in supporting others during times of need. Throughout the pandemic, we have worked with our suppliers and our existing network to support vulnerable Australians, essential workers, the communities in which we work and our colleagues, who without this work, would unfortunately be stood down until restrictions ease. With our Essentials Boxes we can help provide support to those who need it and keep more people employed.

Over the last 18 months, Compass Group has donated Essentials Boxes to assist vulnerable people across Australia. Supporting Indigenous communities in remote locations, Compass Group has donated over 10,000 Essentials Boxes though the South West Land and Sea Council and Kariyarra Aboriginal Corporation.

As their first Major National Food Service Partner, Compass Group also works closely with OzHarvest, providing food and support through fundraising initiatives to help deliver 200,000 meals per year. During Victoria’s lock down last year, Compass Group again linked arms with the charity, and supported stood-down team members, to donate 1,500 Essential Boxes via All Saints Anglican Church and Community Compassion Ministries.

“By donating Essentials Boxes and partnering with these community organisations, we hope to deliver some relief to vulnerable individuals and families,” shares Shelley. “Sydney’s west and south west is in a crisis that we’ve not seen before and Compass Group, alongside others in Corporate Australia, will continue to support those in need.”
