Waypoint Village Opens in Port Hedland

On 11 May, the refurbished accommodation facility in Port Hedland, previously known as Mia Mia Workforce Accommodation, hosted its official opening under new operators and the new name of Waypoint Village.

Purchased by global food and support services company Compass Group, refurbishment of the facility commenced late 2021 with over $4 million invested into the local economy. On 1 April 2022 Waypoint Village opened its doors.

Contributing to economic growth and bringing much-needed additional accommodation options to the town of Port Hedland, the facility will be a welcome addition amid WA’s regional housing shortage and could help to relieve rental pressures in Port Hedland.

Providing 252 rooms, Waypoint has a kitchen/dining room, tavern/wet mess, gym, activity room, laundries and car parking.

“As well a focus on growing local employment and providing ongoing work for local and indigenous contractors, the Waypoint Village team looks forward to working with the community,” shares Toby Edmunds, General Manager of ESS Support Services Worldwide, the sector-brand of Compass Group Australia responsible for hospitality and facilities services across offshore and remote locations.

“During refurbishment we were proud to support the community by donating goods to Ashburton Aboriginal Corporation, Hedland Legal Services and Men’s Shed.”

With Hedland Men’s Shed building a new Shed next door to Waypoint Village, Compass Group Australia hopes to continue to build strong relationships within the Hedland Community.

The ceremony commenced  with a Welcome to Country by a Kariyarra Elder, followed by speeches and a tour of the facility.
